Our Education Programs

Teaching English

Using evidence-based methods like the Science of Reading and Orton-Gillingham, our experienced VIT-registered teachers confidently teach literacy to all students, especially those with dyslexia, to build confidence and skills.

Primary students, we use Systematic Synthetic Phonics (SSP), teaching how letters and sounds work together to decode and spell words, based on the Science of Reading.  We teach the six foundational skills that contribute to proficient reading; oral language, phonological awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.

Secondary students, we develop skills in listening, speaking, reading, viewing, and writing through diverse texts like literature, media, and non-fiction. Students think critically and creatively, analysing language and cultural contexts while refining communication. We also teach paragraph organisation and academic essay writing to help students express their ideas clearly and confidently.

Lesson Structure

A typical tutoring session begins with a quick brain game and nice chat to build relationship, followed by a review of previous lesson work or homework. New concepts or skills are then introduced, practiced through targeted exercises, consolidated with a closing summary and then reinforced with learning tasks at home. We align our planning with the student’s school curriculum so we can front load their understanding to build their learning confidence.

To keep learning enjoyable and interactive, we use hands-on tools, technology and engaging activities.

We conclude with a handover discussion with the parents.

Teaching Mathematics

Teaching a numeracy program involves building learners' confidence and skills in using mathematics in real-life situations. It starts with clear learning goals—like understanding numbers, measurement, data, and applying math to everyday tasks. We break down complex tasks into smaller, manageable steps, providing clear explanations, and monitoring student understanding to ensure lasting progress. At Together We Learn we help learners think mathematically, solve problems, and apply numeracy confidently in everyday contexts. The goal is to make math meaningful, practical, and accessible for every learner.
